What To Do If You’re Arrested For A Dallas, Texas DWI

If you’ve been arrested for a Dallas, Texas DWI, get a lawyer to represent you within a few days. If you want to maximize your chances for a favorable outcome, choose a lawyer who specializes in DWI law and who actively contests DWI charges at jury trials. The more experienced the attorney, the better chance you’ll have to beat your case. If you should contact an attorney, and you are told that you cant win your case, don’t believe it, and don’t give up. Find another lawyer instead.

After your DWI arrest, return to the crime scene and snap a few photos or create a few videos. Be sure to include details like tire skid marks, irregularities on the pavement and any property damage that occurred. If there was an accident, be sure to photograph all the participating vehicles.

No later than three days after your arrest, write down everything you can recall about what happened. This list should include things like how much sleep you had the night before and whether you were drinking on the day of your arrest.

Write down the food you had eaten and any medicines you had taken during the 24 hours before your arrest. Make a list of any bartenders or servers who could vouch for how much you drank. Ask everyone who was with you during the incident to record their impressions as well.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that a DWI is no big deal. It is a very big deal indeed, and it will follow you around for the rest of your life.

A DWI can affect every area of your life; it can set off consequences that have a devastating effect on your professional standing, your insurance rates and your ability to secure employment. You might be unable to rent a car or find a place to live. You could be denied your means of earning a living.

If you are convicted of a DWI, it will always haunt you, and it will be on your record for the rest of your life regardless of where you go or how often you move.
